The lethal dose (LD50, one hour) is 150 to 185\u00a0ppm for elemental fluorine. Elemental fluorine has a strong burning and corrosive effect on the lungs, skin and especially on the eyes. Even five minutes of contact with 25\u00a0ppm of fluorine will cause considerable irritation of the eyes. At the same time, equally toxic hydrogen fluoride is created when fluorine reacts with water (humidity, skin surface).<\/p>\n<p>Permanent monitoring of all areas in which fluorine is used is therefore imperative.
